I have a few catch-ups to share with you all! I did attend the MINT show last month and had a blast. The women there were incredibly friendly and open to chatting. I even met the family of one of the designers, and it was such a joy to get all dressed up for the occasion.
I have to be honest: I do wish they had chosen my designs. Many of the other pieces were interpreted in a similar, overly sexualized way. My GOAT (Greatest of All Time) athlete angle felt fresh and was a great twist on modesty for a show discussing the female body. Even though I wasn’t on the runway, I am glad I stayed true to my vision.
Last week I mentioned using my custom Charlotte pants as a way to get involved with Charlotte Fashion Week. However, the communication with the host continued to be very sketchy. He wanted me to just drop off my custom pants, which are valued at $450, and said I could see them later.
That was a huge red flag! When I asked follow-up questions for more details, he never responded. After seeing how the fashion show actually turned out, I am no longer disappointed about not being included. It felt disorganized and unprofessional. Sometimes, a “no” or a lack of response is actually God’s protection.
Monthly, three of my friends and I host a Craft Night Out. It has been the best time getting out into the city, catching up, and making things I have never tried before. We have finished our first full rotation where one person plans a surprise craft for the group. So far we have made custom bookmarks, coastal cowgirl hats, and canvas tote bags. I already know what I am planning for my turn next, but I am keeping it a surprise for now!
I also recently hosted a Saturday Swap with my Bible study. It was such a cute idea! Everyone brought homemade goodies to swap. We enjoyed homemade blueberry syrup, custom bag charms, homemade coffee, and summer simmer pot bags. I made custom painted wooden hair brushes as my contribution. I definitely see myself hosting another swap soon because it was so much fun.
Last month I also attended a Board Birthday Party where I was in charge of the dessert board. I brought all dairy-free and gluten-free treats, including homemade brownies and oat balls. I also found some delicious Siete strawberry and cream cookies that were a huge hit.
Looking ahead to June, I plan to make my own burned cowgirl hat using a wood-burning tool at the cabin. If it goes well, I will post a detailed video on my YouTube channel. I have already made two custom cowgirl hats, my NYC one and the Coastal Cowgirl one, but I am excited to get creative with this design and add some feathers. Eventually, I will get to work on the GOAT pants for New York City, but I am in no rush to break out the sewing machine just yet.
Lastly, I am back into Bible study prep and teaching. I forgot how therapeutic it is to play with colors and layouts on Canva. Graphic design is such a fun way to use my creativity as I prep to teach Gods Word.
I hope this sparks your imagination to try something crafty this summer! Try taking your projects to a cafe or a park like my friends and I do. I even saw a girl painting on her paddleboard on social media. I might have to take on that challenge when I go to the cabin next month!
Get on Pinterest and get creative, either by yourself or with friends. Creating in the middle of God’s creation with the help of the Holy Spirit is always worth it.
Love y’all! Comment below: what craft ideas are you tackling this summer?
Love, Cass
